I might be able to do something similar to what ramchuk said. I can't use massive blank fields as many of the menus are selection dependant, such as say the inventory menu. When you highlight an item it affects other fields in multiple active interfaces

EDIT (July 4):
Made it so when you arn't clicking on a selectable object in the main menu it treats it as the same as pressing "ESC". I think I prefer this over the weird "Back" button I setup :)
